Placing babies on their tummies strengthens their neck muscles and prepares them for crawling. Spend time with your baby with this tummy time playmat! Good communication skills lead a child to perform cooperative tasks and become productive team members.
Self-Esteem
Self-Esteem is an overall sense of achievement a child feels from the important people around him. Task basis activities could help children to build up a stronger self-esteem with a better judgment about their own worth.
*These are recommendations made under normal circumstances. Parents can determine which activities are most suitable depending on the progress of individual children.
Objective: Observing while lying down
Method: Place the green cushions under the butterfly’s head. This makes it comfortable for your baby to lie on the playmat to observe her surroundings.
Objective: Wrapping
Method: Place your baby in the middle of the playmat. Fold the bottom wings in to cover her. Link the green cushions and mirror together to form a ring. Then use this ring to keep the wings wrapped in. This wrapping protects the baby and keeps her warm. You may also hold your baby this way.
Objective: Blanket
Method: Place your baby in the middle of the playmat and fold the top wings in to cover her. Use the flower shaped mirror to hold the two wings in. Face the mirror towards your baby. You may also wrap the green cushions around her ankles.
Objective: Rolling over
Method: Encourage your child to practice rolling over on the playmat.
Objective: Listening training while lying down
Method: Place your child on the playmat. Crinkle the flaps on the butterfly’s right and left wings to attract your child's attention. Observe if her gaze follows the sounds.
Objective: Combining with Flexi-Arch
Method: Tummytime Butterfly can be used with the Flexi-Arch (sold separately). Lay your baby on the playmat. Allow her to try grabbing at the hanging mobiles. This trains her upper body muscles.
Objective: Tummy time
Method: Put your child, tummy down, on the playmat, with the two green cushions under her chest or tummy. This trains her upper body muscles, to prepare her for crawling and rolling over.
Objective: Listening training during tummy time
Method: During tummy time (activity 2.1), shake the flower-shaped rattle to the right and left of your child’s head. Observe if her gaze moves to follow the sounds.
Objective: Grabbing gross motor skills training
Method: Lay your baby down on the playmat and shake the flower rattle over her head. This will attract your baby to reach for the flower. This trains her upper body muscles.
Objective: Fine motor skills training
Method: Children can train their fine motor muscles with the following activities:
Objective: Developing self awareness during tummy time
Method: During tummy time (activity 2.1), allow your child to observe and recognize her own image in the mirror.
Objective: Wrist and foot rattle
Method: The flower mirror can be attached to your child’s wrist or foot. Encourage her to move her limbs to make sounds.
Objective: Baby anklets
Method: Wrap the green cushion around your child’s feet. This encourages her to move her feet.
Objective: Stroller toy
Method: The flower mirror can be hung on strollers and taken along on trips.
Objective: Identifying facial features
Method: Parents can use the butterfly's head to teach children facial features such as the head, eyes, nose, cheeks and mouth.
Objective: Pointing out facial features
Method: Parents should encourage children to point to the facial feature that they name.
Objective: Learning Colors
Method: Teach children to identify colors using the colorful graphics on the playmat. (red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, dark blue, pink, purple)
Objective: Learning shapes
Method: Teach children to identify shapes using the graphics on the playmat.
Objective: Learning the names of insects/animals
Method: Use the pictures on the playmat to teach children the names of 8 different insects and animals.
Objective: Pointing out insects and animals
Method: Parents should encourage children to point to the insect/animal that they name.
Objective: Counting shapes
Method: Count the different shapes with your child.
Objective: Counting insects and animals
Method: Encourage your child to find all the insects! Count together as you look for them.
Objective: Animal silhouettes
Method: Which 8 animals do the silhouettes represent? Find out with your child!
Objective: Learning about growing up and life cycles
Method: Let your child flip the crinkly flaps to learn about the life cycle of butterflies and frogs. Explain that a caterpillar becomes a butterfly and that a tadpole becomes a frog... and in the same way your child will also grow up to become an adult!
Objective: Pretend playing
Method: The butterfly wings can be strapped on your child's back like a backpack. This is great for pretend play! Your child might like to imitate the movements of a butterfly.
